American Gods is a fantasy drama series based on Neil Gaiman's acclaimed 2001 novel. The story revolves around Shadow Moon, an ex-con who is released from prison early following the tragic death of his wife. He soon finds himself working as the bodyguard and travelling companion for Mr. Wednesday, a cunning con man who is actually the Norse god Odin. Mr. Wednesday is traveling across America to gather the old mythological gods in order to wage an epic war against the New Gods—manifestations of modern society's obsession with technology, media, globalization, and celebrity. As the series progresses, Shadow is drawn deeper into a hidden, mystical underworld where belief dictates reality. Along the way, he encounters a bizarre array of deities, mythological figures, and supernatural beings while struggling to come to terms with his own mysterious identity and destiny. The conflict escalates from subtle power struggles into an all-out spiritual war that threatens to reshape the American landscape and the very nature of divinity.
