Band of Brothers is a landmark 2001 ten-part television miniseries based on the non-fiction book of the same name by historian Stephen E. Ambrose. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the series chronicles the history of "Easy Company," a unit of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, from their initial training in 1942 through the end of World War II. The narrative follows the soldiers through the grueling American training regime, the historic and perilous parachute drop into Normandy during Operation Overlord, the bloody defense of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, and finally into the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden. Through the eyes of leaders like Major Richard Winters and Captain Lewis Nixon, the series deeply explores the psychological toll of combat, the unbreakable bonds forged in the fires of war, and the heavy sacrifices paid by the "Greatest Generation."
