Set in a fantasy world after the defeat of the Demon King, the story follows the elf mage Frieren, a member of the hero party that vanquished the threat. Because elves live for thousands of years, Frieren experiences time differently than her human companions. Following the death of Himmel, the hero she once traveled with, Frieren is struck by deep regret over her failure to truly understand him while he was alive. Determined to learn more about humanity and her own emotions, Frieren embarks on a new pilgrimage to the resting place of souls in the far north, retracing the path of her original journey. Accompanied by her new human apprentice, Fern, and later joined by the warrior Stark, Frieren reflects on her past adventures, encounters old acquaintances, and confronts remnants of the demon menace, all while discovering the bittersweet nature of mortality and time.
