After dying a pathetic and embarrassing death on his way back from buying a video game, high school student and shut-in Kazuma Satou finds himself sitting before a beautiful but rude goddess named Aqua. She offers him a chance to be reincarnated in a fantasy world, allowing him to bring one thing with him. Choosing Aqua herself, Kazuma quickly realizes he has made a grave mistake, as the goddess is completely useless in the face of actual danger. Together, they embark on a quest to defeat the Demon King, but their party grows to include even more dysfunctional members: Megumin, an explosion-obsessed arch-wizard who can only cast one spell a day, and Darkness, a crusader with an unbreakable defense but zero accuracy. Instead of a grand adventure, the group finds themselves struggling to pay for food, lodging, and basic necessities, turning their quest into a hilarious series of misadventures and slapstick comedy.
