Subaru Natsuki, an ordinary shut-in, finds himself suddenly transported to a fantasy world while leaving a convenience store. Without any special powers or combat skills, he is quickly killed, only to discover that he possesses the ability to 'Return by Death,' a supernatural power that allows him to rewind time to a specific point before his demise. This power comes at a heavy psychological cost, as he retains the memories of his traumatic deaths while everyone else remains oblivious to the timeline resets. As Subaru navigates this dangerous new reality, he becomes entangled in the political struggles of the Kingdom of Lugnica and forms a deep, protective bond with Emilia, a half-elf candidate for the throne. The series explores themes of trauma, self-worth, and the burden of knowledge as Subaru repeatedly suffers and fails, forced to learn from his mistakes to save those he loves. His journey is a grueling test of endurance, requiring him to overcome his own flaws and the machinations of powerful adversaries who threaten the lives of his companions.
