Set one hundred years after the defeat of the Demon King Malph, the world has once again fallen into chaos as evil spirits roam the land. The Buddha descends to resurrect the hero Yoshihiko, tasking him with finding the seven keys to the seal that keeps the underworld locked away. Yoshihiko reunites with his eccentric party—the lecherous Danjo, the magic-wielding Murasaki, and the incompetent mage Melebu—to embark on a journey that is as much about survival as it is about navigating absurd, low-budget obstacles. As the group travels across various lands, they encounter bizarre monsters, strange villagers, and parodies of classic RPG tropes. The series maintains its signature satirical tone, poking fun at the conventions of fantasy video games like Dragon Quest. Despite their lack of resources and questionable combat skills, the party must overcome their own incompetence and the ridiculous nature of their quest to prevent the resurrection of the ultimate evil.
