The Facts of Life

A spin-off of the popular sitcom Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life follows Edna Garrett as she leaves the Drummond household to become the housemother at Eastland School, an exclusive all-girls boarding school. The series initially focuses on Mrs. Garrett's efforts to mentor a diverse group of students, including the wealthy Blair Warner, the studious Tootie Ramsey, the athletic Natalie Green, and the rebellious Jo Polniaczek, who joins the cast in the second season. As the series progressed, the focus shifted from the boarding school setting to the young women's transition into adulthood. The characters navigated the complexities of teenage life, career aspirations, and personal relationships, eventually running their own business, 'Over Our Heads,' a boutique and snack shop. The show became a cultural touchstone for its willingness to tackle serious social issues, such as drug abuse, teen pregnancy, and eating disorders, while maintaining its core identity as a heartfelt coming-of-age comedy.
