Set in the Joseon Dynasty, the story follows King Lee Heon, who has been unable to move on from the death of his crown princess seven years prior. As a result, he has implemented a 'geumhonryeong' (marriage ban) decree, forbidding all single women in the kingdom from marrying until the King finds a new queen. The kingdom is in chaos due to the ban, and the people are desperate for it to be lifted. Enter So-rang, a clever swindler and owner of a tea shop who claims to be possessed by the spirit of the late crown princess. She is brought before the King to prove her claims, leading to a series of comedic and romantic entanglements. As So-rang navigates the dangerous waters of the royal court, she finds herself caught between the grieving King and Lee Shin-won, an officer of the Uigeumbu who has his own secrets and a long-standing connection to So-rang.
