The Knick

Set in downtown New York in 1900, 'The Knick' follows the revolutionary surgeons, nurses, and staff of the Knickerbocker Hospital, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. The series centers on Dr. John Thackery, a brilliant, drug-addicted surgeon who struggles with his cocaine and opium habits while pioneering new medical procedures. Alongside him is Dr. Algernon Edwards, a Harvard-trained Black surgeon facing intense racial prejudice from his peers and patients alike, whose hiring was forced upon the hospital by its wealthy benefactor.
