Set in a Danish estate in Jutland following the tragic death of Askeladd, Season 2 shifts dramatically from a tale of bloody vengeance to a profound meditation on pacifism, trauma, and redemption. Stripped of his purpose, a broken and enslaved Thorfinn labors alongside Einar, a fellow slave whose family was destroyed by war. Together, they toil the land to buy back their freedom, confronting the cycle of violence that has defined their world. Meanwhile, in England, King Canute labors to realize his grand vision of an earthly paradise, making ruthless, agonizing compromises to secure absolute power and protect his realm. As Thorfinn wrestles with his inner demons and the ghosts of the men he killed, he experiences a spiritual rebirth, vowing to live as a truly free man and seek out Vinland—a mythical land far across the sea untouched by war and slavery.
