Wiseguy is a groundbreaking crime drama that follows Vinnie Terranova, an undercover agent for the Organized Crime Bureau of the FBI. Unlike traditional police procedurals of its time, the series utilized a unique 'arc' format, where Vinnie would spend several episodes—or even half a season—embedded deep within a specific criminal organization, gaining the trust of powerful mob bosses and kingpins before bringing them down from the inside. The series is noted for its gritty realism, moral ambiguity, and the psychological toll the undercover lifestyle takes on Vinnie. As he navigates the treacherous world of organized crime, he must constantly balance his duty to the law with the genuine, albeit complicated, relationships he forms with the criminals he is tasked to destroy. His primary handler, Frank McPike, serves as his anchor to reality, providing support and guidance while Vinnie risks his life and identity in the shadows.
